Frank Tuning -- June, 2016
Frank Tuning retired in 1997 after teaching art and crafts for 30 years at Burns High School, Burns, Oregon. During that time he received several awards including Art Teacher of the Year for the State of Oregon. Among other Eastern Oregon and State projects, he served on both the SIM and CAM curriculum committees for the State of Oregon. His art program was one of focuses for which BHS received the U.S. Department of Education’s “Excellence in Education” award. A number of his students have gone on to become professionals in various art fields. Frank has taught numerous adult education classes including drawing, oil and acrylic painting, calligraphy, and watercolor, which is his primary personal medium. He either paints “on-site” or uses photos, which he has taken and uses for reference. He feels he “must touch a mountain to paint it.” He is past member and officer of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, and his work has been in a number of group shows. He has had one man shows all over the Northwest including Oregon, Washington and Idaho. His watercolors can be found in collections across the U. S. and in Europe.
